Calm
Calm is a settled state where your body and mind feel steady rather than on alert. Your heart rate slows, your breathing deepens, and it becomes easier to think clearly and choose how to respond.
In the room
A therapist might suggest breathing out a little longer than breathing in, a few times in a row. Slow exhales are a simple way people nudge the body towards calm.
Something a client might say
“My shoulders finally dropped and my breathing slowed right down after that walk.”
An illustrative line, not a real client.
