Self-care
Self-care means the everyday things you do to look after your physical and mental health, such as sleep, food, movement and time with people. It is less about treats and more about steady basics.
In the room
A therapist might ask what fills a person's cup and what drains it, then look for small, doable acts of care, like a glass of water or a short walk.
Something a client might say
“I have been saying no to extra shifts so I can actually sleep and eat properly.”
An illustrative line, not a real client.
Online vs in the room
Self-care is often sold online as bubble baths, face masks and shopping. In therapy it usually means the steady basics: sleep, food, movement, time with people and saying no when you need to.
