Panic attack
A panic attack is a sudden rush of intense fear with strong body sensations, like a racing heart, shaky hands or trouble breathing. It feels frightening but usually peaks within minutes and then eases.
In the room
Therapists often teach slow breathing and the reminder 'this will pass' to help people ride out an attack. New or worrying symptoms are usually checked by a GP first.
Something a client might say
“Out of nowhere my heart raced, my hands shook and I was sure it was a heart attack.”
An illustrative line, not a real client.
