Rest and digest
Rest and digest describes the body's calming mode, run by the part of your nervous system that helps you wind down. It slows your heart, supports digestion and helps you recover after stress.
In the room
Slow breathing, a warm shower or a gentle walk can help switch on this mode. Many relaxation exercises used in therapy aim to do exactly that.
Something a client might say
“After the bath my stomach settled and I finally felt my body slow down.”
